The Light in Jyväskylä event
The Light in Jyväskylä event supports the City of Light project
The Light in Jyväskylä event has attracted a great deal of interest, thus enhancing the general knowledge of the city and its City of Light project. The event is an important forum for lighting professionals, and the national significance of the event is notable because it is unique in Finland; we have no similar events for introducing new lighting techniques and architectural lighting systems. This has given the City of Jyväskylä a valuable opportunity to develop its profile as an innovative leading city in modern urban lighting systems.
The City of Jyväskylä is cooperating with numerous companies and organizations in the implementation of the Light in Jyväskylä event. The permanently illuminated areas form part of the structure plan for outdoor lighting ordered by the City of Jyväskylä in 2000. The city is responsible for maintaining the permanently illuminated areas and the companies are responsible for the planning and construction of temporarily illuminated areas on their own funding. The temporarily illuminated areas are designed to be experimental and they can help produce creative ideas on what lights can be used for, and inhabitants and visitors can literally see the city in a different light!
The Light in Jyväskylä 2006 event consists of permanently illuminated sites, this year’s temporarily illuminated sites, an architectural lighting workshop for students, a two-day lighting design process seminar and other related happenings.
